Important update re Single-use plastic ring carriers

As previously communicated, the Government of Canada’s Single-use Plastics Prohibition Regulations (SUPPR) is being implemented in stages, and the prohibition of the sale of beverage alcohol packaged in single-use plastic ring carriers will come into force as of June 20, 2024.

In preparation for the June 20, 2024 deadline, the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) will be ceasing the distribution of flexible ring-packaged products and would like to advise vendors of the following dates and steps that will be taken:

April 26, 2024

  • LDB distribution centres will no longer accept shipments of flexible ring-packaged products.

May 24, 2024

  • Shipments of flexible ring-packaged products to wholesale customers will be halted and any leftover inventory in LDB distribution centres will be returned to vendors. Customers can continue selling products until the June 20, 2024 deadline.
  • Returns on flexible ring-packaged products shipped to customers will not be accepted by the Wholesale Customer Centre.

This approach for ceasing the distribution of flexible ring carriers is in alignment with existing LDB shelf-life policies and procedures for products with expiry dates as outlined in the LDB Inbound Shipping Handbook.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to be in compliance with SUPPR.
