2023 Federal Excise Duty Rate Change

As you may be aware, the federal government announced yesterday afternoon the excise duty rate change that will take effect on April 1, 2023. The new excise rates are listed in the Appendix (page 2 of the letter posted below).  The rates of excise duty are adjusted annually to the Consumer Price Index on April 1 of every year, and the next inflationary rate adjustment will be on April 1, 2024.

B.C.’s wholesale and hospitality prices will be updated on April 1, 2023 to reflect the excise duty increases.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) will be extending the price change deadline for Period 1 to 5 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023, in order to provide additional time for our vendors and suppliers to react to any wholesale price changes for Period 1 for fiscal 2023/24 (April 2023).

Please note, the wholesale pricing publish date will be pushed from March 6 to March 20, 2023 due to the price change deadline extension, and the wholesale and hospitality price lists for Period 1 will be available on March 20, 2023.

The LDB will also be extending the price change submission deadline for Period 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 with the wholesale pricing publish date remaining Monday, April 3, 2023.
