LDB Successfully Completes Systems Upgrade for Import Wine, Spirits, and Refreshment Beverages

As shared on May 13, the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is currently upgrading its customs clearance systems as part of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) initiative to transform the collection of tax and duty for goods imported into Canada.

The LDB has successfully completed the Phase 1 systems upgrade for import wine, spirits, and refreshment beverages. Purchase order (PO) clearance requests to the CBSA have resumed as usual.

Phase 2 of the upgrade for Special Clearance products (such as agent samples) is on track and expected to complete by mid-June or sooner.  Phase 2 is not anticipated to require a systems outage or otherwise affect operations.

Timing for Phase 3 of the upgrade concerning import beer is yet to be determined. The LDB will notify stakeholders when a date has been determined.
