New traceability requirements for suppliers, manufacturers

The LDB is one of the largest liquor purchasers in the world, buying alcohol from Canadian and international suppliers and manufacturers, and then supplying those products to wholesale and retail customers across the province.  Our vendors and customers are required to meet all applicable regulatory requirements if they wish to do business with us.

New Federal labelling requirements aimed at improving consumer and public safety will come into effect July 15, 2020.  The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) require liquor manufacturers and suppliers --  from within and outside Canada – to have a documented traceability system in place to facilitate the tracking of product by lot code. The lot code must be clearly and prominently shown, readily discernible, and legible to the purchaser under the customary conditions of purchase and use.

Suppliers and manufacturers will be required to trace products one step forward and one step backward across the supply chain; the regulations require retailers to trace products one step back.
