Organic Certificate Requirement for Imports – CFIA Regulatory Update

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is advising vendors of a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulatory update resulting in new import requirements for organic food and beverage products.

Effective May 26, 2025, the CFIA will require a valid organic certificate for each organic food and beverage product at the time of import, including all alcoholic beverages certified as organic. Import vendors must obtain organic certificates from approved certification bodies from this list under the Canada Organic Regime.

As importer of record, the LDB must collect these certificates in advance of importation. To comply with this new requirement:

  • Vendors with existing organic products must submit certificates prior to their next importation after May 26, 2025.
  • Vendors registering new organic products after May 26, 2025 must upload certificates during product registration on the vendor portal.
  • All valid certificates must be emailed toldbprdata@bcldb.combefore each importation to ensure compliance.

Please ensure you've reviewed the CFIA requirements and the Frequently Asked Questions below for more information, as any missing documentation may result in customs clearance delays.

Thank you for your attention to this requirement. Questions may be directed to Vendor Relations at ldbprdata@bcldb.com
