As you may be aware, the federal government recently announced a proposal to temporarily relieve the GST from December 14, 2024 to February 15, 2025 on food, groceries and holiday essentials including some alcoholic beverages (excluding spirits but including wine, beer, ciders, and spirit coolers up to 7 per cent ABV).
The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is currently working with the appropriate government stakeholders to learn more about this federal initiative and prepare for its implementation in British Columbia if it’s passed into legislation.
The federal proposal aims to help consumers save money and focuses on the GST applied on retail products at the point of sale. It is not clear whether wholesale prices will be affected. More details will be made available once they are confirmed.
